COMBINUM Architect has a new user interface.
The functions in COMBINUM Architect have been visualized effectively by replacing the main menu bar with a ribbon menu similar to the ones found in the Microsoft’s Office suite.
Other parts of the user interface has also been given quite a makeover in the same minimalistic tone introduced with Windows 8, which we will see more of in Windows 10.
Details to mention are the stylistic two-colored icons, the clean window design with thin borders and, last but not least, the stripped splash screen displayed at start-up.
Parker Hannifin, an American company with 60 000 employees, has recently gone live with COMBINUM for configuration of hydraulic valves.
Parker has a long experience and extensive knowledge about configurators, so their decision to go with COMBINUM made us extra happy.
The valves are used for controlling mobile equipment, such as cranes, dumpers and forestry machines. They consist of valve sections, where the slide in a section directs the oil to a specific function on the machine.
During valve configuration, each section is configured separately and assigned the desired properties. But a section is also affected by selections made for the whole valve and selections made for other sections.
The rules between the valve sections are called cross-section rules and have been a challenge throughout the years. A challenge which the COMBINUM rule engine manages.
A funny twist is that the COMBINUM configurator has been named eSYBER internally at Parker, which is a reference back to the Swedish developed configurator introduced in the mid 90’s.
Almost every company today has a graphical profile with associated Word templates. Quotes and other documents created in a configurator should of course follow the same graphical profile.
A new and smooth feature in COMBINUM is the possibility to import Word styles. You simply select an existing Word file, define the styles you want to import and abracadabra, the styles are available in the configurator!
Imported styles for paragraphs, headers and tables are then available during report development and you get the right font, size and color etc. automatically.
Other new features on the same theme is the possibility to manage color schemes, to define style options for a table and the possibility to tune the frames around a paragraph.
